Title
Forty-Eight Star American Flag
Description
This forty-eight (48) star American flag/bunting hung at the former Town House at 143 Main Street - home to the town offices. This building closed in 1962 when the town opened the new Town Building at 195 Main Street. The building was later torn down and the U.S. Post Office was constructed. This bunting was hung prior to 1959 when Alaska became the 49th state. It was hung during major holidays and town celebrations such as the Fourth of July. It was given to Ray Sheridan of the DPW Board by the longtime town nurse, Mary Ward.
