During the 1920s she worked as a domestic servant in Stow and Concord. She lived at 129 Parker Street in Maynard. In the 1930s she worked in Allenhurst, NJ and Darien, CT as a cook for private families. In the 1940s and 1950s she worked as a cook for a private family off East 65 Street in New York City. She continued to live in New York until her death in February 1981. She is buried on her sister Anna Renaud's grave plot in Southboro, MA.
Millie (Milja) Susanna Salo Simons:
Born on April 2, 1901, in Ishpeming, Michigan. The family returned to Finland around 1902 and then returned to the U.S. to live on North Road in Sudbury, in early 1911. In the 1920s she worked as a house cleaner at various locations. She lived at the family home at 129 Parker Street in Maynard. She married William “Little Bill” Simons (b. January 23, 1903) around 1930. They lived off Florida Road in Maynard. She continued house cleaning, and he worked as a weaver at the woolen mill. In the late 1940s they moved into 129 Parker Street. Her father, John, lived at 121 Parker Street, and her brother, Bill, lived at 125 Parker Street. They operated the farm during the 1950s and 1960s. Bill Simons passed away on June 10, 1964. She and her brother Bill continued the farm operation until the property was sold to Atkins and Merrill in 1967. She retained a lease on the family home until her death on April 11, 1981.
William J Salo:
Born on October 22, 1902, in Finland, he came here with family in 1911. He initially lived on North Rd in Sudbury with his family. He was known as “Big Bill” to family to differentiate him from his brother-in-law Bill Simons. In the 1920s he worked for the American Powder Company and continued into the 1940s as a truck driver. In the 1950s he worked for a box manufacturer as a truck driver. He also lived at the farm in his own building at 123 Parker Street and worked there as needed. It is believed that the house at 129 Parker Street was moved there from the American Powder Company. This happened after a fire in the original house. He died on July 10, 1968.
